We went for lunch. Hmm. Certainly a gentrification of the old Bar Espanol but the whole area has moved on. The room we entered from the street was bright and airy with charming pictures of dogs needing a home around the wall. Not a lot happened and we smiled at customers on the other two occupied tables until menus eventually arrived and we ordered. Our two glasses of red wine stood temptingly on the front of the bar for so long that I considered marching over and picking them up myself until the girl happened to glance up from poking at her phone, obviously read my bemused expression and brought them over! My husband had ordered the pasta option and asked for bread but was told "Sorry we have none. The man didn't come today." WHAT? There are umpteen shops around and El Corte Ingles is only a short distance away! The young lad seemed to be also attending to customers in another room (while the girl continued to study her phone) so the service was OK but not attentive. A couple who'd finished eating, paid and left but their table wasn't cleared. When another couple came in they were shown to - and seated at - a table set for four. If a group of four people had then wanted lunch, a table in that room would not have been available. We had been told LMDV was under the same management and ownership as Bon LLoc but our memory of those days was of good food combined with superb, efficient service provided by experienced, attentive staff. To be fair, the food was very good but why were two of the options an additional 2€ ? Three pieces of floppy asparagus didn't seem to warrant that. We were fed but I doubt we'll be back - more and more restaurants seem to be springing up for vegetarian or vegan customers and some even have bread!

The steak came a good ten minutes before... read more the pizzas. Being Spain where it's rude to start eating before everyone has food, this was a bad start. My side of chips never came even though we reminded them twice about it. By the time the chips did turn up I had cleared my plate.

The steak wasn't bad, but it was small and hideously overpriced.

I expected some sort of offer of amnesty for the mess up with timings and the lack of chips, for example a discount, but there was none.

I wouldn't go back.
